Water quality of the UMR is critical to the ecological health of the system and is intricately linked to the basin's vast drainage, most of which is used for agriculture (fig. 1). Nitrogen and phosphorus are abundant in the drainage basin because of the widespread use of commercial and animal-manure fertilizers. The Rock River dra sq. mi. in southeastern Wisconsin and northwestern Illinois; about sq. mi. are in IL (Knapp and Russell, ). The Upper Rock River basin is primarily located in Wisconsin while the Lower Rock is located entirely within Illinois. The length of the Rock River in Illinois is about miles.
Along the Illinois River in the lower basin, most of the precipitation falls as rain on shallow soils; rapid runoff leads to high flows during winter storms and low flows during the dry summer. Average monthly temperatures for the whole basin range from about 68 °F (20 °C) in July and August to about 40 °F (4 °C) in December. The Bureau of Water is committed to ensuring that Illinois’ rivers, streams, and lakes will support all uses for which they are designated including protection of aquatic life, recreation, drinking water supply and fish consumption. The Bureau is committed to ensuring that every Illinois public water system provides water that is superior.

Surface-water quality in the Lycoming Creek watershed, north-central Pennsylvania, August 1–3, This report presents the methodology and results for a study of surface-water quality of the Lycoming Creek watershed in north-central Pennsylvania during August 1–3, Daily discharge, cubic feet per second -- statistics for Aug 6 based on 84 water years of record more; Min () 25th percen-tile Median Mean 75th percen-tile Most Recent Instantaneous Value Aug 6 Max () Major influences and findings for water quality and biology in central Illinois, including the Illinois River from Ottawa, Illinois to Valley City, Illinois, are described and illustrated.
Samples were collected to determine nitrate, phosphorus, pesticides, volatile organic carbon compounds, and radon in streams and ground water. Under the pilot project, River Basin Assessments are the precursor to watershed planning. Generically speaking, this state-led effort involves data collection and an evaluation of water quality in the river basin over a period of time.
The River Basin Assessment also includes the federally mandated (under Section (b) of the Clean Water Act. Water Quality in the Lower Illinois River Basin, Illinois, –98 By George E.
